Our Vision:
to advance the interests of people of African descent in Delaware and beyond

Founded in 2015,

the Delaware Africa Coalition emerged out of the need to establish an effective framework to harness the vibrant energy and enormous amounts of resources within the constituent communities in the Delaware Valley. It is a coalition of the willing, who recognize that their geographical origins notwithstanding, the present American governance system views and treats them as the same, and as such they want to relate and celebrate their identity as one people of African descent.

Although anyone who identifies with and subscribes to our vision can join the organization, most of our membership comes from African Americans in the United States as well as continental Africans and Caribbean Americans who now reside in the area. We bring to this vibrant relationship our different life experiences and value systems with the goal to enrich the coalition for our immediate benefit and by extension the larger society of which we are an important integral part.

We have set challenging goals for ourselves and have no illusions about how daunting the tasks to achieve them, but we are also invigorated by our bold and unrelenting spirit which has served us well over time. We are further reassured by our vision to advance the interests of people of African descent in Delaware and beyond.
